I drew a picture of a young boy and his mother separated because they are in different places. The mother has left to get a better job in another country. She has left to be a migrant worker and provide for her son. I drew the sun and the moon to show that the two are in different time zones. They cry for each other at the same time but they are in too different places. I wanted to represent the hardship that migrant mothers have when they leave their children and the emotional toll it takes on the children to be apart from their mothers.
I chose to draw this because I thought it would be a sincere way to show the emotional suffering of migrant caregivers and their families. Children and mothers are separated when the mother leaves for a better opportunity to provide for her family. Although the mother is able to pay for more things and provide for her child, both mother and child still suffer emotionally. My goal was to illustrate the true emotions that occur in transnational families. It relates to transnational feminism because it shows true emotions that are experienced by families across long distances. It also relates to the challenges of migration.
