Synopsis:
This creative product is a collage representing the border imperialism humans face and fight every day. The sign “like the oceans we rise” was found in an article about the Victoria youth climate strike. This significant piece of resistance is symbolic of the solidarity that exists between all countries, across all so-called nation states. Humans gather together and rise against oppressive bodies of power which continuously deny basic human rights and oppress millions who seek refuge and a safe place to live their lives. Through activism, awareness, and movements such as transnational feminism, the fight against border imperialism will endure throughout history. Our collage is representative of this battle. Our wall is built of actions and factors of modern oppression, such as patriarchy and capitalism. However, we depict this wall as crumbling from under the weight of words and images that represent transnational feminist values and praxis. The symbolism of these words and images is one that calls for a revolution of policies, attitudes, and beliefs in the strive for a future in which humans from all across the globe can navigate borders freely and without fear. Until this is possible, the revolution against border imperialism must continue.
Rationale:
Our rationale for creating a visual depiction of the fight against border imperialism is that the multiplicity of images and words which represent this fight is important in sparking recognition of the mobilization of bodies against systems of oppression. Through intense imagery and phrases, someone looking at our collage will feel this senses of urgency and unity that our collage represents. A visual representation of this is as necessary as photos and videos are in journalism and activism. Without it some of the gravity of the reality of border imperialism will be lost. In choosing to do a collage, we focused on the power of the symbolism of the words and images we used.

This collage is a very powerful image. Turning words into images in order to portray a struggle for change and revolution is effectively used, having the positive words piled on top of the oppressive ones. The selection of words used gesture to the many important aspects of feminism and intersectionality that are crucial in dismantling harmful systems, and that feminism must be about more dimensions than just gender. Compiling images from other media sources is also a nice reference to the fact that evidence of discrimination and corruption can be found almost everywhere in our lives, but likewise can we find hope for change in many places, especially when those places unite to strengthen the fight against oppression.
