Arab Women Activists

Activist - The meaning of activists according to the Cambridge English Dictionary is a person who believes strongly in political or social change and takes part in activities such as public protests to try to make this happen.

According to Merriam-Webster is a person who uses or supports strong actions (such as public protests) to help make changes in politics or society

The above definitions present the meaning of an activist without specifying a gender, which only confirms that both men and women contribute to the major changes that reflect on both the political and social scopes. Therefore, I choose to write about Arab women activities and their current role in the activists’ movements throughout the Middle East, and how they enriched the concept of transnational feminism. I also want to focus on the way the west is portraying Arab women in general as oppressed and weak human beings. And on how the west is creating this image of women who need to be saved from evil men and the society they are living in, as a means to start a war on terror that allegedly exists in the Arab world. I truly believe that we have a perception problem and have done little to wage a public campaign to correct the myths surrounding Arab women, their capabilities and their way of living.
