The article talks about when Rahaf Mohammed arrived at Toronto’s Pearson International airport. As she was welcomed to her new home, after The Canadian government granted her to seek asylum here. As Mohammed was facing death threats if she was to return to her home country of Saudi Arabia. The article address how many women and children in the world who are also seeking asylum into countries such as Canada from abuse of family members or their spouse. They are left waiting not knowing when they will get their chance to enter, and thus they come here illegally with no documentation. Which causes them to live a life of constant fear, if authorities catch them. They all share stories that are carbon copies of what Rhaf went through.
I chose this article from week five of our class material as, I find this article important as we are hearing more and more about people who are seeking asylum outside of their birth countries. Factors rising from climate related, imprisonment, gender, and civil unrest resulting from protesting and civil wars. As the number continue to rise of people who enter as undocumented because of wait times or the immigration practices of the neoliberal state such as the united states and trumps want of building a bigger wall. Restricting from allowing people who are looking for a safe place to achieve their hopes and dreams. Lastly it’s important to help people of many different genders, to help them achieve asylum just as Mohammed did.
