Migrant Rights Network

Synopsis:

Migrant Right Network consists of 36 organizations that have signed on to form a cross-Canada alliance. Their network membership includes migrants, refugees, and allies that have joined together to combat issues of racism and discrimination, and to fight for racial and migrant justice issues. Their resource page provides links to open and downloadable fact sheets and graphics on issues of racialization in poverty, wages, and imprisonment. They provide downloadable PowerPoint presentations that can be shared with others as activist tools for both community and labor audiences. This network is part of the campaign for Care Workers Voices for Landed Status and Fairness.

Rationale:

This network is the result of a cross-Canada alliance among 36 organizational groups that include worker unions, self-organized community and grassroots groups, and allies. Their platform focuses on five key areas that are related to transnational feminism, borders and migration and calls for the landed status for all migrant and refugees in Canada. It discusses the ongoing issues with the caregiver program, and that there should be full access to public services and fair wages for all residents, with or without official status. This alliance is including the inclusion of Indigenous peoples and their right for self-determination to allow for a just society, in addition to gender equality. Their platform outlines how migration may be due to displacement related to climate change, war, and corporate and economic exploitation of resources in other countries.

I chose this organization and their resource page because I found that their content related to several areas of migration and gender. I have previous experience with different organization members that are part of this alliance, and this cross-Canada network is a result of their move towards adapting alongside social media and outreach changes. This resource is useful in that it outlines their position, demands, and events to readers in a clear and concise approach that is accessible. This network is part of a larger coalition, the Care Workers Voices for Landed Status and Fairness that collected and published a report that discusses the complexities of the Canadian foreign caregivers’ program.
